We left from Kobenz for Bingen and sailed down the Middle Rhine. This 40-mile stretch of the river has spectacular scenery, including picturesque forests, vineyards and no fewer than 28 castles along the way. It’s definitely one of the highlights of our trip. We sat up on top of the boat and braved the 80 mph winds – we are Vikings! This post shows every castle I could spot and was able to get a photo of before we passed it by. Like the wind, they came fast and furious.

The castles are great. The way they are perched high up on the hills and their battlements and parapets make them look so safe. Wouldn’t you love to tour every room in every one of them?
The hillside farming looks like a real challenge unlike the flat land farming we have here in Southern Indiana and Kentucky.

What does the inside of your cabin look like on your ship if I might be so bold as to ask?

Deutschland is sehr schon!!…LOVE all the castles, and that palace was stunning!
So the stores are still closed on Sundays….they were when we were there too but
it was still so enjoyable to stroll the streets and window shop while we ate our
ice-cream cones….at least some restaurants and ice-cream parlors were open.
Sounds like you guys are having a wonderful time….and yes, that marble column
really catches one’s eye….it’s GORGEOUS!
